2009 Tonner Convention Special Exhibit

This year's special exhibit came in two parts: First, Louise Fecher, Author of Here Come the Bride Dolls, arranged a showing of some bridal themed dolls from her personal collection. From manufactured dolls to repaints and mix & match, Louise brought a true treat for the attendees in honor of Tyler's Wedding. Second, to pay tribute to ten years of Tyler Wentworth, Robert Tonner selected his top 30 favorite dolls from a decade of the House of Wentworth. Dolls ranged from company-made items, to OOAKs and prototype dolls from Robert's personal collection. Attendees were asked to vote for one doll that was their personal favorite - we will be announcing the top ten dolls in the near future along with one lucky winner who will win a full registration tot he Tyler Wentworth Tenth Anniversary event in Kingston, NY on November 7, 2009 (winner will be chosen by random from the voting ballots obtained at convention). We thank Louise and Robert...along with Paula Kagan, Exhibit Chair, for bringing us a glorious, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see these magnificent works of doll art.

Snow White Event & Charity Auction

Well better late than never, I always say! Here is the video from the Snow White event. Attendees received the 8" Snow White doll as shown a couple of posts down...and she is a special cutie, indeed! Also in the video are some images of the one-of-a-kind dolls that were auctioned to support A Friend's House (learnmore about this very special charity here: http://www.afriendshouse.net/) - over $14,000 was raised by some very generous colelctors...thank you, all! Featured in the charity were two bride dolls, of which the gowns are featured in a special Haute Doll Magazine article by Louise Fecher (http://www.hautedoll.com/), the first prototype (dressed by Paula Kagan and Robert Tonner) of Peggy Harcourt, daughter of Janet Harcourt, and DeeAnna Denton's rival - the Harcourts own and operate the rival candy company to Denton Chewing Gum - watch for drama to ensue this fall! You'll also see two wonderful 22" Tonner American Models, and a special fashion fantasy with Asian themes by Tonner Design Director, Joe Petrollese. Enjoy!

Now You Can Say You've Seen Everything...

At the Saturday Night Janet Lennon PJ Party, we showed this video after a brief look at the Lennons' career. Robert explained that this very rare footage was an alternative taping to Janet's popular Watusi segment on the Lawrence Welk Show. BY POPULAR DEMAND - we are bringing this video to you, our virtual audience! Now...when we say, 'by popular demand', remember this wasn't our idea to post this here...so don't say you haven't been warned. Enjoy!

Competition Genius!

OK, OK...so maybe the blogger doing this is just a little inept (that's me...sorry for the dupes in the recap section!!!) Anyhoo...this small collapse of oversight is more than likely due to the fact I was editing this segment...the Competition Entries. This is always one of the highlights for many convention attendees...to see not only what challenges have been presented to the artists...but then to actually see what they have accomplished! Not to slight the Project Runway theme...but this truly shows what creativity abounds in our collector audience. Robert specifically commented that he was blown away by the entries this year...and we think you will be, too! A tribute to our fantastic Competition Artists...you all made this feature shine! And Meg Hunt, Competition Chair, you are hired for life for coming up with THE most amazing and thought-provoking themes in the doll industry competitions today (in our own humble opinion)...you ROCK!

NOTE: VIRTUAL RAFFLES WILL BE PULLED AT 5PM EST, MONDAY, JUNE 15TH, 2009!!! WE WILL POST WINNERS ON TUESDAY, JUNE 16TH, 2009. AGAIN, WE ARE SO SORRY WE CAUSED CONFUSION HERE!

Convention Recap!

Hi, Folks! We haven't forgotten about you faithful watchers in virtual land! An early flight had some of us back in NY today (and yes...we are exhausted!)...that being said, we do have a couple of additions for tonight. Here we have a recap slideshow of the weekend...with great costumes, joyous memories...and friendships to last a lifetime! Also, we wanted to show you the souvenir Betsy from the Farewell Breakfast with Snow White.

Coming up next...we want to pay special tribute to our Competition Participants, who brought such an amazing creative collective to our convention. They deserve a special spotlight all their own! Then tomorrow, I'll be working on more posts, a complete list of convention specials, names and editions...highlights from the Charity Auction to benefit A Friend's House (over $14,000 raised!!)...AND, the virtual raffle winners! Stay tuned, and thank you for your patience!

Oh yes...and a note for you folks who tried to register for the virtual raffle...we got many emails from folks asking how to do it...and if could they still sign up (some sad because they felt they missed out). The answer is YES! We deliberatly did not pull the names on Saturday night because we failed to make this more clear. If you are having trouble signing up...just email us at help@tonnerdoll.com and we will put your name in the hat...we have already done so for others who emailed 'info' and 'help' - if you are unsure...email us again! We'll put your name in...and winners will be picked tomorrow. We are so sorry we dropped the ball on this one...but we hope to make it up to you by including everyone...let your friends know, too. Thanks, again...what's a virtual convention without YOU?
